Ken Leach : Great tool, wish a bit quieter aye
Ed Cace : I found what screw to use for the Tex screw application on and what metal, it works perfect dude really good, don’t be worried anymore that feature is great and I’ve been using it so much since the house I’m working in is steel framed
Isaac from Alberta : I just ordered mine in authentic red
Chan Dick : Sexy impact driver
N B : Where do I get that exact purple one from the video, I can't find it on any of the sites :(

What's inside Makita 18v LXT BL1830B OEM and clone battery packs?

A little different to my usual (microcontroller) videos - I didn't find much information online so thought I'd add some.

Want me to do more (or less!) of this kind of video? Let me know!

AvE some videos on official Makita packs. For instance this old BL1830 style battery has a board that looks suspiciously similar to the clone packs I have: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG2KHJILDzo
EJ Wu : Does the official one have built-in over-discharge protection?
sixtyfiveford : The capacity of the fake batteries is real BUT!!!! The cells they use aren't High Drain/High Discharge cells. Genuine Makita, Dewalt, Milwaukee etc will use high discharge cells rated at generally 25-30amp discharge rate. Sometimes they use as low as 20amp in 10 cell packs as they are parallel 5s(5 cell) and 20amp X 2 gives you 40amps of draw power. FAKE battery packs are generally constructed out of reclaimed 18650 cells from old laptops or just cheap cells that are only rated at 5amp to maybe 10amp draw. So you have essentially 1/4-1/2 the tool power. A drill, grinder, etc will stall out with little force. Real battery pack gives 40-60amps of power vs Fake with 10-20amps. They aren't worthless though and make great batteries for low power tools like Lights, Fans or other low drain tool accessories. By the way, Great video.

Cyc0Dud3 : eh, no thanks to the knock-offs. had one die in six months or so; other one going downhill fast. meanwhile the genuine makita batteries have finally bit the dust for the most part after the better part of three years.
Razors Edge : Makita 3.0 AH hasn't been £60 for years, I purchased my ones in 2016 for £40. You can now purchase Makita 3.0AH from Amazon for £23. Does fluctuate in price so keep checking for the lowest price.
